Thoughts on letting go and habits

Every once in a while, life gives you an ending—testing your mental strength and stability. And sometimes it seems like, no matter how many endings you've gone through in the past, they don't get much easier. Because each event is different. You may cry, you may not. You might shut down, or you might just instantly accept it. But either way, each ending is new lesson about yourself, and is an opportunity for you to experience some new personal growth.

Of course, there are no surefire ways to avoid hurting. It doesn't matter if you expected it to come, or if you were the reason it ended. No matter the situation, losing someone will suck.

The best thing that comes out of these endings, is learning new ways to pick yourself back up again and looking for a new, stronger desire to keep on going.

Because each time life knocks you down, just think of it as a new opportunity to prove life wrong. To show life that you're resilient, and strong, and just... better.

I've been reading a few books about habits lately. And if you're thinking, what do HABITS have anything to do with letting go? Endings are the perfect time for you to develop some new, healthy habit loops—things that will keep you happy and keep you moving along. Because if you think about it, when a relationship ends in your life, you are breaking some comfortable habit loops. And that's going to give you space to introduce some new habits that will keep you busy.

In my personal life, I've been trying to develop a better, more consistent habit of journaling. Specifically, I've introduced the morning pages exercise into my morning routine. Every morning, after brushing my teeth, getting dressed, making my bed, and making a cup of coffee, I'll sit down at my desk and write 3 pages of just stream of consciousness writing. It's such a great habit that I'm super proud that I've developed. I am going travelling soon so it'll definitely be a test to see whether my habit has really stuck or not—but for now it has been going strong.

Now to reintroduce working out to my morning routine...that's going to be a little harder.
